Mary Catello

Mary Catello is primarily a self-taught contemporary basket weaver. She has studied with various master artists learning different mediums and techniques; however, her love and passion for weaving lies with the palm tree. Mary began experimenting with local Florida palms substituting palm inflorescence for commercial reed, thereby turning trash into art. Mary teaches traditional and artistic basketry using many different mediums including reed, paper, and waxed linen. Mary’s work can be seen in galleries throughout Florida. In 2015, her award-winning piece, Zen II, will be touring to The Grand Hand Gallery in St. Paul and the Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, MA.
