Armory Art Center is set for growth and excellence with changes to key staff positions

(WEST PALM BEACH, FL) June 14, 2014: The Armory Art Center is poised for more diverse and exciting classes, events, exhibits and exposure - with a new and powerful team. Key positions have recently been filled with experienced individuals – new and old faces to The Armory.

 

Stephen Futej, Sculpture Department Director, effective date of hire:  June 30, 2014.  Stephen is a former Armory Artist in Residence, former Armory faculty member in the Ceramic and Sculpture Departments and adjunct professor at Florida Atlantic University.  Stephen also has experience with Foundry work.   In addition to his Armory residency Stephen was awarded residencies at the Perkins Center for the Arts and The School at Church Farms.  Stephen received his BFA at St. Joseph’s University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and his MFA from Florida Atlantic University.   

Jeanne Martin, Director of Marketing, effective date of hire:  June 30, 2014.  Ms. Martin is a former member of the Armory Art Center’s board of directors and during her tenure as a board member she served as the chair of the Marketing Committee.  Ms. Martin has over twenty-five years of experience working in the field of creative management, advertising, brand development and graphic design.  For many years Ms. Martin was the creative manager of the Palm Beach Post’s Branding and Marketing Department where she over saw a staff of nine.  Most importantly Ms. Martin is well acquainted with the Armory and has a true passion for its mission.

Lisa Johnson, Director of Jewelry and Metalsmithing, effective date of hire:  July 7, 2014.  Lisa is an Artist-in-Residence in the Jewelry Department and has functioned as the Jewelry Department’s manager for the last year.  Lisa received her M.F.A. from Indiana University in Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design.  She has been awarded residencies at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts, Haystack Mountain School of Craft as a TA, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, and currently The Armory Art Center. Lisa exhibits nationally and internationally.  Most recent publications include Metalsmith Magazine’s Exhibition in Print 2014, SNAG News Technical Article: Slip Casting in Jewelry, 500 Prints on Clay, New Earrings, and On Body and Soul: Contemporary Armor to Amulets.  

Hans Evers, Director of Exhibitions and External Programming, effective date of hire:  July 8, 2014.  Hans has over 30 years’ experience at the high school and college level of arts education, including International Admissions Representative and Associate Dean of Undergraduate Admissions for the Maryland Institute College of Art, USA education liaison for Centro diseno cine television and Head of Admissions, Marketing and Communication at Willem de Kooning Akademie, Rotterdam, The Netherlands.  Hans received his MFA in Sculpture from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Ma., and a MA in Art History from Tufts University, Medford, Ma.

Liza Niles, Director of Education, effective date of hire:  July 8, 2014.  Liza is an educator and designer with over twenty years’ experience.  Lisa was the Department Director of the Textile and Fashion department at Centro diseno cine y television located in Mexico City.  Her responsibilities included the development of curriculum, the hiring and supervision of faculty, strategic financial planning, establishment of adult continuing education programs and the establishment of an international exchange program and workshops.  Lisa received her BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art, Boston, Ma and her graduate degree from Parsons School of Design.
