Leora Klaymer Stewart

Leora Klaymer Stewart was born in Jerusalem. She immigrated to South Africa and then to the US, where she received her BFA and MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, with a major in weaving and textile design and a minor in art history. After graduating, she lived in the artist’s village of Ein Hod, Israel on a travel fellowship from the Art Institute of Chicago. She began her teaching career at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, where she established a Graduate Program in Fiber Arts. She received two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship Grants. In NYC, she set up the Llama Studios for Architectural Textile Art and taught courses in the Fiber Arts, first at the New School for Social Research and Parsons School of Design and in the Art Department at Baruch College, CUNY, and then at FIT, NY. She became a resident of Palm Beach, Florida in 2007 where she continues to develop her work. www.leorakstewart.com
