Mary Catello is predominantly a self-taught fiber artist although, over the years, she has taken workshops with many of the most successful artists in her field. Her first passion was creating sculptural vessels and forms from palm cuttings and other natural foliage. With an inquisitive mind and a never-ending desire to experiment she continuously explores other fibers. Her new passion is with paper; making paper, paper casting, paper mache, etc.. In this medium she has had success creating art to wear, art for the wall, art for the pedestal, and installations. With such a versatile medium Mary continues to experiment and push the possibilities.
Mary has received both local and national acclaim. Her art can be seen in galleries on both the east and west coast of Florida. In 2019 she is exhibiting at Artisans on the Avenue in Lake Worth and Florida CraftArt in St Petersburg. Her art has been selected and toured through the US with the National Basketry Organization and juried into many local art venues.
