Heidi Mayfield was born in Charlottesville, and was first introduced to encaustic wax and oil painting when she watched her mother paint with as a child. She studied pottery at Piedmont Virginia Community College and then again at Daytona Community College before attending the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale, FL where she studied graphic design. Heidi joined the Lighthouse Art Center as faculty and thus began her teaching career, teaching acrylic, oil, abstract, mixed media and encaustic wax methods. She was recently commissioned by the Tennessee National Bank to paint 28 landscapes, representing the local mountain area for permanent exhibition in their new headquarters in Kingsport, TN. She now resides in Hendersonville, NC where she has an art gallery, studio and art school, where she continues to work and teach.
