This year’s Armory annual studio sale includes family-friendly activities.
WEST PALM BEACH: October 31, 2014. The Armory Art Center will be hosting its annual studio sale the weekend of November 22nd through 23rd, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The sale will take place in Armory Art Center’s Montgomery Hall. This year the sale is re-named HolidayFest & Studio Sale to reflect the added family-friendly activities planned for the weekend.
The Studio Sale features unique, handmade items created by Armory faculty and students. Attendees can find ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, glass and more at reasonable prices.
The event will offer a free children’s workshop – a fun activity for kids and that gives parents time to shop. Offered both days from 1:00-2:00 p.m. for children ages 5-12. Children will make holiday crafts with instruction from our Armory Art Center faculty.
“The biggest benefit of doing holiday shopping at the Armory’s HolidayFest & Studio Sale is that the items are all one-of-a-kind and handmade. There is a story behind their creation and purpose. The fact that no one else anywhere is going to have the same pair of earrings that you bought from an artist is a nice thought. Gifts mean a little more when people take the time to match a unique item to someone’s personality,” says Director of Ceramics, Mark Walnock.
Many of the artists stand at their tables so they are able to interact with interested customers. They can discuss their work, procedures, and techniques with them during the sale. Some artists may continue working on pieces while at their table so attendees can see the process.
Lisa Johnson, Director of Jewelry and Metalsmithing, says “Instructors and students enrolled in Jewelry courses will collaborate as a studio during the Holiday Fest this year to sell and exhibit hand-made jewelry. Jewelry items will include necklaces, rings, bracelets, and earrings fabricated primarily out of sterling silver/precious metals.”
Mark Walnock expressed warm holiday sentiments when he said, “With your purchase you are supporting a good cause as a portion of the money raised at the event goes to funding the Armory and its programs.”
