The Armory Art Center Announces a Trio of Exhibitions

West Palm Beach, FL. (September 28, 2009) --  The Armory Art Center opens its gallery doors Friday, October 9, 2009 to three exceptional exhibitions: Drink up! - Ceramic Cup Invitational, Women In The Visual Arts- “Artistic Visions: On, Over, Off the Edge of Our World” and Vanishing Florida.

Drink Up! – Ceramic Cup Invitational

This ceramic exhibition will feature functional and sculptural drinking vessels made by local and nationally recognized ceramic artists in porcelain, earthenware and stoneware. Invited participants include Ben Carter ,Gainesville, FL; Meredith Host, Kansas City, MO; Jenni Brant, Lincoln, NE; Helen Otterson, West Palm Beach, FL; Stephanie Stuefer, Sarasota, FL; Tyra Forker, Three Oaks, MI; John Britt, Bakersville, NC; Patrick Coughlin, New York, NY and Brooke Noble, Edwardsville, IL.

Vanishing Florida

A photographic tribute to the eroding beaches and falling seawalls, vintage buildings and architecture, endangered wildlife, small towns and the natives who have long called this state home. Photo Salon photographers explore the textures, colors, humor, symbols and more from the Vanishing Florida we love. The exhibition is juried by Charles Stainback, the William and Sarah Ross Soter Curator of Photography at the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Photo Salon is a group of local professional and emerging photographers who have been meeting at the Armory Art Center for the past two years. The group was founded by Marie Marzi, art instructor at the Armory, and nationally published photojournalist.

Women In The Visual Arts- “Artistic Visions: On, Over, Off the Edge of Our World”

This juried exhibition presents the works of both men and women in painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, metal, glass and fibers. Founded in 1989, the Women In The Visual Arts, Inc. is a non-profit corporation whose focus is to promote interest in the Visual Arts in South Florida throughout its programs, activities and scholarships. Jurors include Dr. Susannah Brown, Associate Professor, Department of Teachers Education at Florida Atlantic University, 2-D; Kevin Ruse, Photography, Kathleen Carlyle, Jewelry.

All three exhibitions are on display from October 9th to October 28, 2009.  An opening reception is planned for Friday, October 9th from 6-8pm.  Admission to the opening reception is free for Armory Members and $5 for non-members.  Armory gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10am – 4pm and Saturday 10 am – 2pm.  Please call 561.832.1776 or visit for more information.


Celebrating its 23rd season, the Armory Art Center provides opportunities for individual growth and self expression through participation in studio classes, exhibitions, lectures and other educational programs. With more than a dozen state-of-the-art studios and a student population of nearly 3,000, the Armory Art Center is the community art center in the Palm Beaches.  It is a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit.
