This class is a great opportunity for you and your significant other to give wheel throwing a try.  Feel free to bring your own refreshments to enjoy on your date! All clay and tools are included.  Each participant will create four pieces that will be fired and glazed for pick up on a later date.

SCULPTURAL POURING VESSELS

Instructor: MICHAEL BLAIR    Levels: All
Use your wheel throwing skills to create medium-to-large scale vessels. With direction you will transform this vessel into a sculpture which will reference every aspect of function. Components discussed will include the feet, rims, spout, handle, and overall balance of each piece. Surface treatment specific to each piece will be discussed.

WHEEL THROWING WORKSHOP

Take a seat and get your hands on the potter's wheel! Learn to center your clay and walk away from the wheel with a finished product. This workshop will give you basic fundamentals of working on a wheel and will leave you wanting to take an eight-week class.

Experiment with a spontaneous approach used by Mary Cassatt and other American impressionists to make one-of-a-kind prints. This class is designed for both novice and longtime artists. Additive and subtractive techniques will be explored using brushes, scrapers, brayers, overlays, and collage.

FABRIC DESIGN TRANSFERS

Learn to design fabric for tote bags by integrating photographs with fabric paint, stamps, and markers. Students will learn about image patterns, color, and how to transfer images using specialized paper. Students are encouraged to bring in pictures and magazine snippets to include in their designs.

TEXTILE FOLK ART COLLAGE

Instructor: KIANGA PARKER     Levels: All
Each participant will create a 2-dimensional collage using African textiles, yarn, paper, beads, and leather. Students will be given templates to assist in the construction of the body and instruction on making any clothing or accessories. Using fabric glues and some minor hand sewing, each collage will adhere to a handmade paper background. Cutting and gluing are the major skills needed. Hand sewing is optional, imagination is required.
